things I've learned in my first quarter as a master's student
The autumn quarter for my university is coming to an end, and I'll soon be finished with the rest of the quarter in just two weeks!
I've learned a lot during my first quarter in my Master's program. The most notable insights are:
Put yourself out there. Go to events, coffee chats, etc. People are more generous than you think. Which leads to...
Don't be afraid to ask for help. They remember being in the position you're in right now. The worse they can do is say no (or simply just not reply to you).
Make sure to take time for yourself. I think November was an exercise in maintaining my sanity. There was a lot going on - both good and bad - and it was a challenge to keep my headspace clean.
For anyone pursuing graduate school, no matter the field, I hope these few tips can help you have as much fun and enjoyment as I do. I'm very, very happy with my program so far. Hoping for even more fun as 2024 comes to a close!
